There is Android’s default DeskClock App https://android.googlesource.com/platform/packages/apps/DeskClock/. Am I allowed to modify and release it? What does “AOSP apps are not designed to be built as SDK apps” as stated in the question Source code of default Android 4 Apps (Clock Alarm Timer) mean? Does it have anything to do with the fact that I cannot build the DeskClock App because a lot of resource elements are missing and I don’t know how to make the default app work?

Please only answer if you have experience in making AOSP work in Android Studio for I’ve already been trying to make the default app work for some months now with the tips from source.android https://source.android.com/setup/build/downloading. Thank you very much in advance!
